What Is a Pod System? How Pod Vapes Work
A pod system is the smallest practical vape: a battery, and a pod that holds both the e-liquid and the coil. There is no separate tank and usually no settings to adjust. You charge it, fill it or clip in a fresh pod, and inhale.

How a pod vape works
Three parts do the work. The battery supplies power. The pod holds e-liquid against a coil wrapped in cotton. When you draw, the coil heats and the liquid becomes vapour.
Most pods are draw-activated — there is no button, the device senses the airflow and fires. Some have a single button, usually for firing or for cycling a small number of power levels.
The draw is deliberately tight. That restricted, mouth-to-lung inhale is what gives a pod its characteristic feel, and it is why pods pair with higher-strength nicotine salts rather than the low-strength freebase liquids used in high-power devices.
The three kinds of pod device
Standard pod system
The simplest form: a small battery and a pod, draw-activated, no screen. The pod is replaced as a whole unit when the coil inside it wears out. Compact kits from the Vaporesso XROS and RELX families are typical of this class.
Pod AIO
All-in-one. Same compact shape, but the pod takes a replaceable coil rather than being discarded whole. Cheaper to run, since you replace a small coil instead of the entire pod, and it usually gives you a choice of resistances for a tighter or looser draw.
Pod mod
Larger, with a real chipset, adjustable wattage and often a screen. It sits between a pod and a full mod — more control and more power, still pocketable. The OXVA XLIM series is a common example.

Refillable or pre-filled?
This is the choice that affects daily use most.

Using a pod system
- Charge it fully before first use.
- Fill the pod, or clip in a pre-filled one.
- Wait five to ten minutes. The cotton needs to soak. Vaping a dry pod burns it immediately.
- Draw gently. A pod does not reward a hard pull — a slow, steady inhale gives better flavour.
- Top up before the pod runs low rather than after.
Store it upright. A pod left on its side in a warm car is the usual explanation for a leak.
Who suits a pod system?
Anyone starting out. The tight mouth-to-lung draw and higher nicotine strength make a pod the simplest device to pick up, and there is nothing to configure.
Experienced vapers wanting something discreet. Plenty of people run a mod at home and a pod when out.
Anyone who dislikes maintenance. Pods use less liquid, need less cleaning, and produce less vapour than a sub-ohm setup.

How long does a pod last?
A refillable pod's coil typically lasts one to three weeks. Sweetened e-liquids shorten that. Replace it when flavour fades or a burnt edge appears.
What nicotine strength should I use in a pod?

Why is my pod leaking?
Usually a worn coil, overtightening, or pressure change from heat or altitude. Check the seals and avoid leaving it in direct sun.
Can I put any e-liquid in a refillable pod?
Match the liquid to the coil. High-resistance pod coils are made for thinner, higher-nicotine salts. Thick high-VG liquid will not wick fast enough and will give dry hits.
