How to Choose Your First Vape Kit

How to Choose Your First Vape Kit

Originally written in 2020. The specific kits are long gone, but the way to choose a first device has not changed โ€” that part is below, updated.

The hardest thing about starting is that there is too much choice. This is how to narrow it down without needing to understand coils, wattage or airflow curves first.

Start with the draw, not the device

Mouth-to-lung (MTL) is a tight, two-stage draw โ€” into the mouth, then inhale. It is what a cigarette feels like, and it is where most people should start.

Direct-to-lung (DTL) is open and airy, straight to the lungs. More vapour, lower nicotine strengths, larger devices.

Get this right and everything else follows. Get it wrong and no device will feel right.

Three realistic starting points

A disposable

Nothing to learn, nothing to maintain. Good for trying vaping at all, or as a backup. The most expensive option per millilitre if it becomes a habit.

A refillable pod system

The sensible default for most people. Buy the device once, then run it on liquid and occasional replacement pods. Cheaper than disposables within a month or two, at the cost of some upkeep.

A mod

Full control over power, airflow and tank. Not a first device โ€” more to learn and more to get wrong. Worth it later if you want to tune the experience.

Then the liquid

A pod system wants salt nicotine; a sub-ohm device wants freebase e-liquid. Putting high-strength salt nicotine in a powerful device is the classic beginner mistake and is genuinely unpleasant.

Our nic salt guide explains which you need.

What to look for in the device itself

  • Adjustable airflow โ€” lets you tune the draw rather than accept the manufacturer's guess
  • Type-C charging โ€” one less cable
  • Easy refilling โ€” top-fill is less messy than bottom-fill
  • Availability of coils โ€” a great device is useless if you cannot get replacements

The honest advice

Come into the shop on Al Ghuwayfah Street in Al Nahyan Camp and hold a few. Size and weight matter far more than a spec sheet suggests, and we would rather talk you into the cheaper device if it is the right one.

Or message us on WhatsApp and tell us what you are using now.

Nicotine products are restricted to adults aged 18 and over in the UAE.
